Abstract: A golf club head having a face with a face center and a center face measured performance variable, which may be a characteristic time, or CT, value, a coefficient of restitution, or COR, value, or a potential smash factor. The face includes a center face permanent indicia that is indicative of the center face measured performance variable. Relationships among the permanent indicia and the face are disclosed to reduce the likelihood of distraction caused by the permanent indicia as a golfer addresses a shot. Further, the surface roughness of the permanent indicia is controlled with respect to the surface roughness of the face to reduce the impact that the permanent indicia has on the performance of the golf club head.
